The River Valley Literacy Council is hosting an Open House Tuesday, October 23rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at their new location at 209 Cedar Street in Dardanelle. The Council serves a five county region including Yell, Pope, Logan, Johnson, and Franklin Counties. The purpose of the Literacy Council is to provide free, quality instruction and support to literacy seeking adults. Use of the new location was donated to the River Valley Literacy Council by the Dardanelle School Board. The new location is housed in the former Parents’ and Teachers’ Resource Center.
Teaching within the council is accomplished through one on one tutoring and small group tutoring. Tutors help students with basic reading and writing skills, passing their GEDs, citizenship tests, and more. All instruction and services are free of charge.
Everyone is invited to this community-wide event where visitors can meet the new director, visit with tutors, students, and the board, and learn more about how the River Valley Literacy Council serves our communities. Snacks will be served. “We are so excited about our new location,” says recently named director, Meredith Martin-Moats. “We are so grateful for this space and can’t wait to grow our services in the community.”
